Pros

  • Unique 'answer video' for every single question
  • Teachers solve problems on a virtual whiteboard
  • Simple, distraction-free interface
  • Wordsmith vocabulary builder is excellent
  • Founded by Karl Schellscheidt (Princeton grad and tutor)

Cons

  • Interface feels dated compared to modern apps
  • No adaptive algorithm (linear practice)
  • Limited analytics compared to UWorld or PrepScholar

The Verdict: Old School but Effective

ePrep is based on a simple premise: You learn by watching. When you take a practice test on ePrep, you don’t just get a score. You get a playlist of videos. For every question you missed (or guessed on), there is a video of a teacher solving that exact problem.

The “Show Me” Philosophy

Most students don’t want to read a paragraph explanation. They want to see how to do it.

  • Whiteboard Style: The videos show the test booklet and a digital pen. You see the teacher underlining key words, crossing out wrong answers, and doing the math in the margins.
  • Modeling: You learn to mimic the teacher’s behavior.

The Interface

This is the weak point. ePrep looks like it was built in 2010. It works fine, but it lacks the slick, gamified feel of Khan Academy or UWorld.

  • No Frills: It’s just tests and videos.
  • Focus: Some parents like this because there are no distractions.

Vocabulary

ePrep includes a tool called Wordsmith. While vocabulary is less emphasized on the new Digital SAT, having a strong vocabulary is still a massive advantage for the Reading/Writing section.

Final Thoughts

ePrep is a great tool for visual learners who want a straightforward, no-nonsense approach. It simulates the experience of sitting next to a tutor who corrects your mistakes immediately.

Our Recommendation:

  • Visual Learners: If you learn by watching, this is for you.
  • Tech Savvy: If you want a modern, adaptive app, look elsewhere.
